ANKENY, Iowa (Nov. 4, 2009) — Every two years the City of Ankeny conducts a citizen survey to assess public opinion about various City services and programs and to obtain critical input on the community’s expectations.

“In a growing community it is critically important that we listen to resident opinions about the future of our community and prioritize allocation of City resources to meet their needs and ensure we are spending taxpayer dollars in the most effective manner," said Ankeny City Manager Carl Metzger. "The survey results serve as a valuable tool as the city council re-examines the City’s capital improvement and operating budgets, as well as long-range strategic plans that will address current and future development issues.”

A prenotification postcard will be mailed to 1,200 randomly selected Ankeny households the week of November 16, with the survey to follow one week later. It will poll citizens on information ranging from quality of life, public safety, development, parks and recreation, economic development, infrastructure, administrative services and leadership. This year’s survey also includes a series of questions regarding property taxes, capital and service priorities and the utilization of city resources.

Citizens receiving the survey are encouraged to complete it and return in the postage paid envelope provided. A final report will be presented to the City Council in early 2010. Residents will be able to view results on the City website or in the spring edition of the Ankeny Report.

This is the City of Ankeny’s fourth biennial citizen survey administered by The National Research Center of Boulder Colorado. The survey results allow Ankeny to examine this year’s responses to established benchmarks, identify trends and compare its results with other like cities.
