ANKENY, Iowa (Nov. 17, 2009) - The City of Ankeny fire department and the Ankeny Sports Complex Foundation received grants of $25,000 and $10,000 respectively from the John Deere Des Moines Works in a public ceremony at last night’s city council meeting. John Deere’s philanthropic efforts are focused on the communities where the company has major operating units and employee presence to make them more attractive places to live, work and operate a business. Specifically, John Deere contributes to growth and improvement in these communities by supporting organizations working in the area of human service, community development, and arts and culture.

“The John Deere Des Moines Works is proud to be a corporate citizen of the Ankeny community. It is our privilege to support programs and organizations whose initiatives create lasting impacts for our community,” said Kelly Woerdehoff, Communications and Public Relations Specialist for John Deere.
The fire department will use the $25,000 to supplement the department’s training budget and to refurbish the fire safety house, an educational tool designed to teach children about fire safety. The Sports Complex Foundation plans to use the funds for additional improvements to the Prairie Ridge Sports Complex, including construction of a Little League Quad Center and sports field lighting.
