Does the city allow recreational fires?
A:
The City of Ankeny has adopted the International Fire Code which allows fro recreational fires as long as certain regulations are followed.  A permit is not required for a recreational fire.  More information is available in the Recreational Fires Handout.
Where do I get a pet license?
A:
Pet licenses may be obtained at City Hall during regular office hours. The fee is $10.00 per pet and a copy of current rabies vaccination is required. Please call 515-965-6400 for further information.
What if my mailbox was damaged by snow removal equipment?
A:

The installation of mailboxes on city owned right-of-way is permitted. The mailbox owner assumes all risk of damage, except when a mailbox is damaged through direct contact by snow removal equipment. If a mailbox is damaged due to direct contact by snow removal equipment, the City, at its option, will repair, replace or reimburse the property owner.

Where may I get a handicapped parking sign?

A handicapped parking sign may be obtained at City Hall during regular office hours.
Public Records Request
A:
Complete a Request for Public Records form at the City Clerk's office or download the form. The request should be specific to assist staff in providing the desired document(s). Staff may take up to ten working days to research the request and respond. A fee of 15 cents per page will be charged for paper and scanned/electronically transmitted copies.
Does Ankeny have a commuter bus service?

Yes. The Ankeny commuter bus services to Des Moines has two park and ride locations. For more information on routes, please contact the Des Moines Metro Transit Authority at 515-283-8100 or visit their website.

How may I see what's on the next City Council agenda?

Agendas are available on the website and are posted no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Friday before each meeting.
Where are the polling sites and what are their hours of operation?
A:
Please refer to the Polk County Auditor's website. There you may enter your address and it will tell you where your polling site is. Polling sites are open 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for city elections. You may contact the Polk County Election office for further information at 515-286-3247.
How long is the city council and mayor's term of office?
A:
The Mayor and city council members serve four-year terms. The terms of office are staggered, with two council and mayor seats filled at one election and the other three council seats filled at another election two years later. The next city election will be in November of 2009. The Mayor Protem is appointed by the mayor to serve a two year term.
Who are the current council members and mayor and how do I contact them?

Ankeny has five city council members who are elected at large, meaning each one is elected by voters throughout the entire city and represent all Ankeny citizens. You may see the names, photos, contact info and brief biographies of Ankeny's current City Council members, as well as current Mayor and Mayor Protem, on our website.
Where may I register to vote or obtain an absentee ballot?

Registration forms for both are available at the Ankeny City Hall during regular office hours. You may also contact the Polk County Election Office 515-286-3247, located at 120 2nd Avenue in Des Moines, IA.
When do I need to re-register to vote?

You must re-register when you move, change your name, or your political affiliation.
How do I get a Marriage License?
