MEDIA ADVISORY: Traffic to close two Ankeny streets next week
ANKENY, Iowa (May 31, 2012) – Construction will closed two Ankeny streets next week. Both projects could be delayed by rain.
SW Cherry Street at SW Ordnance Road – The north leg of the intersection will be closed to traffic starting Monday, June 4th for approximately two weeks. A marked detour will direct traffic to SW 6th Street and SW Walnut Street. This closure is needed so that water main construction can be completed. The work is part of the extension of SW Cherry Street from the schools in Prairie Trail north to SW Ordnance Road. A message board will be placed on SW Cherry Street at the location of the closure starting today.
SW Polk City Drive Asphalt Overlay – The asphalt overlay of SW Polk City Drive from just west of SW State Street to SW Applewood Street will be completed early next week. The contractor’s schedule includes three days of work:
- Monday June 4th – The existing asphalt surfacing will be milled and removed. During this operation, traffic will be restricted to one lane.
- Tuesday, June 5th – The street will be closed to through traffic all day.
- Wednesday, June 6th – Granular shoulders will be built along the edges of the new asphalt. During this operation, traffic will be restricted to one lane.
A message board will be placed at each end of the project beginning tomorrow morning.
